Gun Composites
A work in progress of the Gun composites based from the silhouette that I did earlier. They are no where near complete, but they should not take too long to do and I will just update it then. After this I will probably will choose one or two of the guns and do a final schematic drawing.

Papa Monk
Started out decent, went really bad, then salvaged in below decent piece. I need to do more studies, but I would feel weird posting a bunch of studies here and I do not want to ignore all of you. Must keep pressing forward.

Rufus
A hobo brawler or a pirate? Who knows, but it reminded me a bit of a younger version of Uncle Rufus from Boondocks and thus named him so. Just a sketch in hopes to get better at many things I need help in.

Bonk Color Comps
Rough Bonk color composites done in Photoshop which I am leaning towards the bottom middle one. I will be doing some more detailed color character paintings here soon, but want to do her armadillo pet design first.

Bonk
Wanted to diversify a little bit and get a cartoon like character in progress. This is Bonk, a little prehistoric heroine that is a rather strong tomboy. She runs around with her dinosaur bone club and her pet armadillo that she knocks into things.

Axion
This was an introduction animation I did for a class project not too long ago, it can be played on a loop. I did everything within the video except design the logo. A bit too much glow for my tastes along with other things, but was on a timetable and had to go with it. I also updated the pod model images in an earlier post for those who follow along.

Fey Magic
Crap. But at least I am back on the horse and drawing again. Nothing much to talk about here, just another drawing on vellum. I might take it and paint it digitally and see if I can make it more respectable, but I have not decided yet.

Digital Portrait 002
More practice from reference, this one is a black and white painting of a young man. I am strongly considering of trying to do at least a painting a week of a character in a movie released that week. Right now though I am just going to paint as much as I can and see where it takes me.

Digital Portrait 001
I have been doing too much 3d stuff lately (or nothing) and need to get back to sketching and painting. I need a LOT more digital painting practice and really need to make more effort to get more of these digital paintings done, actually more than that I need to make it routine.

Pod Model
Have not really decided how far I want to take this model, figuring it out as I go at this time. I am working on the texture some, but will probably build up the model some more for the normal map. It has been frustrating thus far, but we will see how far I can take it.

Pod Concepts
Have to do some pod designs which is like a futuristic cockpit of some strange device. Working on blocking it within maya but figured I should show where I came from to show the progress of the pod device.

Gun Silhouette 004
It seems the guns are getting bigger and bigger which is fine. I do plan on the final product being an unrealistic large gun. But only plan on doing one more page and taking it on the next step, but I have so many guns to work from.

Gun Silhouette 003
Rolling right along. I was unhappy with some of these as a whole, but they had interesting parts that I will continue to carry on into the next batch. Thats kinda of the idea of this method, rapidly produce a bunch and begin taking pieces from some of them and recombine them into something better.

Gun Silhouette 002
Here are some more gun silhouette's and I have no intention of stopping here. I am not 100% sure how many I am going to do. But it will probably be many before I end up choosing some and taking them to a more detailed stage.

Gun Silhouette 001
The first of many weapon silhouette's I will be doing. It is my hope to improve on weapon design, and eventually add some nice 3d objects to my portfolio. Cool characters need cool guns to blow things away, anything else would just not do.

Nicholas
First day of spring break and wanted to be sure I do not spend it on the couch. Did a few sketches as well of this one of a combat monk. Its got some issues, but their are many things I want to get done this break so I cannot spend all my time noodling problems.

Base Head: Jurgen
A base head that I plan on using for an expression study within Zbrush. I wanted to do someone with a lot of wrinkles which I think would help enhance the expressions and make the overall piece more interesting. I may also texture and model out a body for the character to get the most mileage from the piece.

Skeletor
Skeletor is done, though done is a relative term when it comes to digital medium. I may play a little more with the values and add some sort of green flame within his hand, but I am considering this one done... finally. Hope you all like and hope it was interesting watching it progress for those few who pay attention to the blog.

Poison Mistress
Been a while, and a lot to still do... Color pencil on marker paper. A stealthy woman with bad intentions, perhaps an assassin with the power to coat her sword with poison after she has passed all the check points in a city. Well she got the sword in, so I guess the guards are not doing their job.

VG Sketchbook 03
Its been a while. Been working on a traditional painting lately and it is has not been going so well. Mistakes when it comes to such things cost more time and can make one frustrated in general with the art world. I shall work through it hopefully and come out with a great painting.

Skeletor Turntable
Barring any minor changes the modeling portion of Skeletor is complete. I plan to do a full rendered out illustration style scene through maya but wanted to include a turn table animation with no texture to show the model, kind of like a pewter figurine.

Katana Girl
An old drawing I pulled out and am starting to digitally paint. So I will put up the sketch for now and post the painting once it is complete. Do not expect it soon however, there is much more important work that needs to be done first!

VG Sketchbook 02
Some face make up designs with weird helm accessories and some sort of masked tiki jungle woman. I did not really have a plan I just kind sketched to see what would happen. Im just happy to have the time to sketch two days in a row. Tomorrow though will be a Zbrush day most likely, so unlikely I will have anytime to do anything within my sketchbook.

VG Sketchbook 01
Got a new sketch book the other day, it is much more ornate than my usual sketch books. It is field book (smaller) and has Van Gogh motifs on the outside of it, thus Im calling it the VG sketchbook. It was my intention to use this blog as a running sketch book, so here you go. The first page(s) of the sketchbook.

Nun
A sketch that I planned to paint, but never got around to. I find myself with less and less time to do traditional painting anymore. Perhaps I should digitally paint this one instead, but I guess time will tell what becomes of this sketch - if anything does.

Student Base Head
Here is a head I created in Maya for beginning students to use within Zbrush on the first day of class. It was given to them in case they have never had any 3d experience and could take the base head divide it to make head sculptures of their own. I too plan on creating some quick 3d sculptures from this head, so here is before then.

Skeletor Color
Been working on my Skeletor sculpture lately in Zbrush. I finally figured out how to correct the Uv's after going to Zrush! This will hopefully be the last work in progress of this particular piece. Still have quite a few items to sculpt and texture, but here you go. Hopefully the next post on this guy will be the final.

Hel
Another sketch done for the Norse mythos characters. I spent some more time on the shading on this one as I tend to get carried away at times. It looks good so far, I like the design and cannot see changing it much other than costume redesigns.

Sindri
Working on some norse mythos concepts. This one is the first attempt at the dwarven smith, Sindri. I have decided to move away from the generic fantasy dwarf and make them creatures of stone and fire, something that crawled forth from the forge themselves. In time I plan on doing more fleshed out concept attempts of this guy.

The last of the glass Christmas special posts. I did a few more including a snowflake for a xmas tree ornament, but I do not want to fill the blog with "What I gave for xmas" posts. The crafting season is over, back to drawing!

Glass: Celebration
Another Christmas gift piece in sandblasted glass. Everything in these glass pieces is custom made, with the glass inserted into a wood frame with a wood backing. Personal made things always make nice gifts, and the recipients were all happy with their glass stuff. Nothing been broken yet.

I know its been a while. The holidays made me lazy, but now I must get back to work! Here is something I did in glass with sandblasting for a Christmas gift. The glass stuff does not photograph very well, but it came out very nice.
