Punch Out! "El Mascaras"

Another Punch Out character and this one is confused between boxing and wrestling! Fear the Lucha Libre! I see the character changing his mask during the fights or rounds to show what moves he is about to do. Kinda like a bad Scooby doo villain who has mask after mask on his face. Lets get ready to rumble!!!

Punch Out! "Ziggy Zag"

Here is another concept for a Punch Out boxer. A clown boxer with probably a wide array of unpredictable attacks including his special juggling barrage. Yes, its absurd. But most Punch Out characters in that game are. I wonder if he trains with balloon animals.

Punch Out! "Big Boy"

Big Boy was a video game Punch Out character design. This man-child I picture being strong and durable but slow. That is of course except when he goes into his terrible tantrum, then I picture him being quite a handful. Some other images that come to mind with the character is him crying and seeing baby bottles for stars.

PSI Knights

Here are some works in progress of PSI Knight concepts. Knights that walk a very thin copy right law of being Jedi Knights... Meh... (Shrug). Got a few more Im working on, and probably will paint at least one of them, if not more.

Stormtrooper

I know its been a while. Summer has come and with it a wave of laziness that swept over me, but its time to get back to work. To hold you all over until I put something new up I pulled out an old painting for you all to enjoy. Its an acrylic airbrush on wood with a custom built frame.

Annoyed

I was just practicing techniques in digital painting today, and after a couple hours he turned into this. He eventually got this look on his face of getting pissed off that I was painting him... so I stopped.

Freakish Mutation!

Evolution gone very very wrong... or right, who am I to judge. All we can wonder what it once was, and hope we never run into it. This painting started out as a sketch that was painted over, and was more or less practice for carapace type creatures.

Illumination

Starting to move some of my traditional artwork here to give it a home on the internet. This particular piece was done on black paper with white pastel and charcoal. It was a challenge to keep clean, since the slightest smudge would show up in the dark areas. We should wonder what an kinda radiation a orb of pure light would give off.

Concept: Triramus

Began a concept sketch night with some other artists. We basically come up with a concept and we each create a sketch on it. I sketched it out traditionally and quickly did a digital painting over it, keeping in mind to keep the time spent on it relatively low. This particular concept was of a video game demon, like something you would see in Diablo. I was going for a faster hand to hand fighting demon from an arid environment.

Leyendecker Study

This oil painting was a study of a J.C. Leyendecker painting. An old painting study I did that I found lying around. Thought it would be a great throwback to the past illustrators and pay some tribute to a past great. Leyendecker was an illustrator from the early 1900's and was one of the chief influences on Norman Rockwell. If you ever have a chance to see one of his paintings you take it!

Apple Core

An image I have been working on and off for a while. I almost want to make a 3d model of this one, but I need to finish all these half done projects I have lying around before I even consider it. An apple a day.

Thief's Tale

One of my many projects that Im working on is a old school side scrolling game with a group of independent game developers at Star Frog Games. I am doing the digital painting as well as some of the character modeling for the game. Here I show the collision screen capture I get, and the paint over in its early stages. Its in the early phases, and will have many more passes before we get to a finished product.
There is a lot of file organization that goes into a project like this, sadly right before I was almost finished I accidently deleted the entire project.... (Pause to let fellow Artist shudder) ....
Yes, it happens. Lost a lot of work, and tried some recovering software but it failed me. But I got it all redone.

Bandana

A watercolor sketch, a portait of a woman in a bandana. Ban..dan..a.... funney word. Hehe.
Its very opaque watercolor work, I tend to like it thick and going back with white watercolor for the highlights I never seem to be able to preserve. Watercolor purists everywhere shudder at the thought of this Im sure.

Scan: Darkhound

Here is a quick sketch of a dog like creature I am planning on modeling in the near future. I have other models and paintings I need to get done first though. But this guy has a future and wanted to include an early draft of him to save to compare to later.

Spawning of a Scorpion

This little guy is growing up so fast. Here I show various stages of his development, and hopefully he grows up to be big, healthy, and possibly quite poisonous. Lets hope he does not become a rebellious teenager.

Scan: Mermaid

Been busy with 3d stuff that I cannot post, but here is a sketch I squeezed out recently. I was considering painting it traditionally, but I am still behind on many other projects. Just trying to keep somewhat up to date here, hopefully I get more time to dedicate to traditional stuff.

Bettie Page

I actually finished this piece a couple weeks ago for a Bettie Page tribute show, but Im going to put it up since I have been working on some projects for job applications and havent had much to show you all. Its Bettie Page, one of the first pin up models to entice the minds of many young men, and maybe even a few women. She recently passed away and a gallery did a tribute show for her which I entered. I did it pretty fast actually, since I found out about the show little over a week before the show. I kinda want to do another one now and spend more time on it, Im thinking of attempting a full pin up painting in a 50's style.

Bullywug

I do a bit of 3d modeling as well, just finished this particular guy. He is a model designed with video game intentions so hes relatively low poly count and with Normal maps. Yes, its a foreign language to many of you. All you really need to know its model with limitations which makes it a little more challenging.

Scan: Cloudwalker

A sketch done for a painting I am working on, I thought it would be nice for you all to see progress work on it and eventually the final piece. Basically its horizontal image of a woman floating in the clouds with really long hair being done in acrylic and airbrush. Might add some birds flying around her as well, other than that I am kinda figuring it out as I go.

Scythian Beheader

I have been working on furthering my digital painting skills, and I have taken upon myself a project with a friend to create a CCG(Collectible Card Game). Its basically a game similar to Magic, but has to do with bugs and I will leave it at that. This particular piece I am calling done as of today, but knowing me I will probably look at it again in a month and change it.
It still is a little stiff, but I dont want to mess with it anymore. I have learned its better to mark something off as done and move on. Its better for the learning process to do more pieces than to sit there and spend your life trying to fix a lost battle. Its respectable at this time, move on.

Project Meatmonkey

Well, I have made this blog to be something like an art record of my work and its progression. Not so much to be a gallery of finished pieces, though there will be plenty of those as well. I intend to post excerpts of whatever I am working on weekly, the bad along side the good to demonstrate my process and hopefully to show improvement. Not to mention there will be others I know who can give me feedback on such work, and who knows.... it could very well lead to other avenues of artwork down the line.
Well lets see how this turns out shall we?
